Vidhan Sabha Election Survey and Analysis (1993)

The Vidhan Sabha Election Survey and Analysis (1993) was one of the earliest large-scale IT-enabled election survey projects undertaken in Dehradun. I had the privilege of leading this project, which combined field research with computerized data analysis to predict election outcomes.

The project was assigned to a group of Information Technology students studying RDBMS, Data Structures, and related subjects. To replicate the actual election process, 18 wooden ballot boxes were used, and specially designed survey forms were prepared to capture voter responses. Over a period of 15 days, the survey team conducted an extensive field study across the Dehradun and Mussoorie Vidhan Sabha constituencies, collecting and processing thousands of data points.

The collected information was systematically computerized, analyzed, and presented during a press conference. The project received widespread coverage in both national and regional newspapers. Its most significant achievement was that the predicted results closely matched the actual Vidhan Sabha election outcome, demonstrating the reliability of the survey methodology, the effectiveness of data analysis, and the practical application of Information Technology in election forecasting.
