Indian medical students can practice in the Philippines
Many Indian students choose to pursue their MBBS in the Philippines because it offers high-quality education at lower costs. Recently, the Philippines updated its Medical Act of 1959, allowing Indian students to register and practice medicine there. This change, approved by the House of Representatives, is excellent news for Indian students studying MBBS in the Philippines.
Now, students who complete their Doctor of Medicine degree (equivalent to an MBBS from the Philippines) from a college recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and complete a 12-month internship can register and practice medicine in the Philippines. CHED will provide the necessary certification to support Indian graduates.
Kadwin Pillai, Director of Transworld Educare and Chairman of Kings International Medical Academy, explains that this update is particularly beneficial for Indian students. Many Indian students choose the Philippines for MBBS due to the high-quality education, English-medium instruction, and affordable living expenses. The new regulations also align with the Indian Medical Commission’s requirements, enabling Indian graduates to practice medicine in India after obtaining their MBBS from the Philippines.
This change benefits not only Indian students but all foreign medical students in the Philippines.
